Greek flavours are some of my favourite to cook with, so it’s only fitting that I have a recipe for a Greek Lamb Burger, right? Lamb, garlic, oregano, lemon. A flavour combo that can never disappoint the taste buds.
The biggest problem I have with buying burgers from restaurants or fast-food outlets is that the patties are always tasteless. I get that they have to cater to many different tastes, but surely adding flavour could only improve the burger!?
For this reason I prefer to make my own burgers at home. I control exactly how much flavour goes into the patty and I can ensure that it is properly seasoned. Don’t be afraid of seasoning your mince, it really makes all the difference!
Below is my recipe for a flavourful Greek Lamb Burger for you to try at home. I hope you enjoy!
Greek Lamb Burger
Ingredients
For the patties:
- 500 grams lamb mince
- 1 red onion diced
- 5 cloves garlic pressed
- 15 grams fresh oregano finely chopped
- 1 feta round crumbled
- freshly ground salt & black pepper
For the Tzatziki
- 2 snacking cucumbers
- 1 clove garlic pressed
- 4 tbsp greek yoghurt
- squeeze of lemon juice
- freshly ground salt & black pepper
Instructions
- To a mixing bowl, add the mince, onion, garlic, oregano and feta. Season well with salt and pepper, then use your hands to combine all of the ingredients.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal parts, then roll in the palms of your hands to form a ball. Press down on the ball to flatten into a patty. Repeat with the other 3 and set aside.
- For the tzatziki, grate the cucumbers then squeeze in your hands to get rid of the water. You can use normal cucumber, I just find the small snacking cucumbers to have a lot less water. To a small mixing bowl, add the yoghurt, cucumber, garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Combine well and set aside.
- Heat a pan with oil, then fry the patties for about 5 minutes each side until brown. Cook for an extra couple of minutes if you prefer your meat well-done. While the patties are cooking, you can toast your buns in a griddle pan.
- Once buns and patties are done, assemble burger by placing lettuce on the bun, then top with the patty, tzatziki, slice of tomato, red onion and finish off with cucumber ribbons.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
