Like banana bread, only it’s not.
When I have overripe pears I don’t want to go to waste, I make pear bread with it.
This is such an easy recipe, you don’t have to be a kitchen ninja to make it! No need to cream the butter or sift the flour, your bread will still turn out fine, I promise.
I know many people prefer to bake with vegetable oil rather than butter and / or milk, but I don’t like the taste, so this is how I do it.
Pear Bread
Ingredients
- 2 Eggs
- 1 cup Sugar
- 0.5 cup Melted butter
- 0.5 cup Milk
- 1 tsp Vanilla essence
- 1 tbsp Lemon juice
- 1.5 cup Flour
- 2 tsp Baking powder
- 2 tsp Ground cinnamon
- 0.5 tsp Salt
- 3 Pears, peeled
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180 C.
- Combine eggs, sugar, melted butter milk, vanilla essence and lemon juice in a mixing bowl and whisk.
- Add flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt and give it another whisk. Fold in the chopped pears.
- Pour the mixture into a lined loaf tin and bake for 50 minutes.
- If you find that the top is browning too quickly, cover in foil. After the cooking time is up you can test by inserting a toothpick in the center. It should come out clean when the bread is ready.
- Remove from oven and let cool for about 10 minutes before removing from tin, then let cool for a further 20 minutes on a wire rack.
- Serve with a generous amount of butter and enjoy!
