pear bread

Like banana bread, only it’s not.⁣

When I have overripe pears I don’t want to go to waste, I make pear bread with it. ⁣

This is such an easy recipe, you don’t have to be a kitchen ninja to make it! No need to cream the butter or sift the flour, your bread will still turn out fine, I promise. ⁣

I know many people prefer to bake with vegetable oil rather than butter and / or milk, but I don’t like the taste, so this is how I do it.

Ingredients

  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 0.5 cup Melted butter
  • 0.5 cup Milk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla essence
  • 1 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 1.5 cup Flour
  • 2 tsp Baking powder
  • 2 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 3 Pears, peeled

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 180 C.
  • Combine eggs, sugar, melted butter milk, vanilla essence and lemon juice in a mixing bowl and whisk.
  • Add flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt and give it another whisk. Fold in the chopped pears.
  • Pour the mixture into a lined loaf tin and bake for 50 minutes.
  • If you find that the top is browning too quickly, cover in foil. After the cooking time is up you can test by inserting a toothpick in the center. It should come out clean when the bread is ready.
  • Remove from oven and let cool for about 10 minutes before removing from tin, then let cool for a further 20 minutes on a wire rack.
  • Serve with a generous amount of butter and enjoy!
